Python Automation

We raised $12 million to govern automations created by AI

The announcement of this funding round is an important milestone for BotCity’s growth, arriving at a moment of technological inflection and convergence.

AI made Python the new Excel macro. If you ask a GPT, Gemini, or Copilot to automate something, the initial response will be Python code. You might not even know how to run Python, but the LLM will teach you.

The result is that we’ve moved from a reality where specialized teams created hundreds of automations to a scenario where thousands of people create scripts daily, leaving the company exposed to data exfiltration, core system outages, code vulnerabilities, and a lack of auditability in executed processes.

For us at BotCity, this represents a new angle of an old problem. Since 2018, we have been focused on bringing governance to Python automation development. At the time, RPA technologies dominated the market with narratives that low-code was the future and developers would no longer be needed.

What happened?

Companies started hiring developers, even if it was just to work with low-code platforms. We interviewed 200 automation teams globally and discovered that the only thing preventing Python from becoming the main stack was a robust layer of governance and observability.

And that’s what we built. Backed by Y Combinator (the world’s largest accelerator), Softbank, and Astella, we created the first governance layer in 2021. Since then, the product has been widely adopted by major companies, including Bayer, LG, XP, Stone, and other prominent names, with over 1,000 teams using BotCity in production worldwide.

At the time, we were seen as swimming against the tide of the market. Still, we were sure that Python’s advantages (zero lock-in, no development cost, and its status as the lingua franca of AI) would define the future of automation.

We were right. We just didn’t imagine that evolution would be so rapid that anyone could build. And when everyone can create, governance is the challenge.

Our role is to help companies scale smart automations without killing innovation. BotCity provides governance and orchestration for automations not only in Python but also for code in general, as well as for code-based AI Agents.

We see a future where AI & Automation must be governed and managed under a single umbrella, and we are building the definitive platform, from monitoring user machines to centrally managing automation KPIs.

As technology evolves, we will have “off-the-shelf AI Agents” of various types, just as we have SaaS solutions for almost everything. However, on the other hand, we have powerful tools that help users ask for anything and generate code for automation.

Between testing 20 different tools and asking a GPT, the user will choose the easier path. That’s why we believe the future is in Python, as Python is increasingly abstracted into a new programming language: English.

Companies that realize the path is not to say “no,” but to say “how”, will gain a competitive advantage that will be difficult to reach in the future. Our role is to provide the management and governance layer that enables your company to strike a balance between innovation and control.

What Does This Round Mean for Our Customers and Future Customers?

A complete platform for AI and Automation Governance.

This comprehensive platform vision encompasses various stages of the journey and paths that intersect across company departments.

1 – BotCity Sentinel – Our Endpoint Monitoring Solution

Many companies allow any employee, most of whom are non-technical, to use Python on their workstations, but without any connection to a secure development pipeline or a platform to ensure observability.

BotCity Sentinel will bring the security of our orchestration platform to the endpoints, providing observability and security across all workstations.

2 – BotCity Orchestrator and AI Agents

Intelligent automations will continue to target repetitive, high-volume processes with clear rules. Companies require deterministic solutions for any financial operation or process that involves auditing. AI Agents will tackle a new range of use cases that involve unstructured documents, data analysis, report production, team interaction, and so on.

We see a future where intelligent automations, AI agents, and employee scripts collaborate for business operational excellence.

3 – BotCity Opportunity Hub

Our opportunity collection solution, launching at the end of November, allows companies to scale opportunity gathering and better prioritize processes that require the due attention of the Process Office.

4 – Expansion of Our Global Operations

We are expanding the reach of our global operations, not only with products but also with a completely new front for education and Forward Deployed Engineers, an initiative that places BotCity’s expertise within your company to solve your primary automation and AI challenges.

Furthermore, new technological and implementation partnerships are accelerating our local knowledge in a global context, bringing the necessary muscle to govern and orchestrate global client operations.

We closed this round in Silicon Valley, where we are expanding our operations, and we had the opportunity to select investors who genuinely share our vision and thesis.

The round was led by Dan Scholnick from Four Rivers, followed by Y Combinator, Astella, Firestreak Ventures, Upload Ventures, Scale Up by Endeavor, and Sagol Holdings.

We are proud to bring on legendary angel investors like Lew Cirne (Founder of New Relic), Walter Kortschak, Erica Fridman Stul, and Mark Roe.

If you’ve read this far, we can only thank you. None of this would be possible without a fantastic team (click here to join our team), a community that has never stopped supporting us, investors who understood our thesis, and customers and partners who were visionary, believed in the evolution of technology, and are now reaping the rewards.

Thank you very much, let’s build together!
